Hello folks.
I've just been looking at the past couple of months traffic analysis from Google UK and have noticed an interesting pattern.
My traffic levels drop as the weekend draws near and then climb (significantly) in the early to mid part of each week. The highest days being tuesday/wednesday.
This cycle then repeats.
Anyone else see something similar in their traffic and does anyone know why this might be? I would have guessed that weekends would have been my peak times but apparently not?!

I have been watching very similar trends for thirty or more sites over a couple of years. It seems like the more serious browsing is going on during the week, and on weekends, people probably spend time with family and friends. I also like to get information and browse for things I am looking for before the weekend comes, for most people the weekend starts friday afternoon, hence the reduced visitors on friday already.
Instead of keeping an eye on the weekly pattern, I recommend that you establish the annual pattern, and compare it with public holidays, etc. Some sites drop visitor figures for December and only coming back to previous levels around February, while other do the opposite, depending on what they are about, and their target market.

All business have traffic patterns such as this, although they differ by business. I've got one client that peaks on weekends, another on Mondays. It's normal, and it depends on what you sell and when people are most interested in buying/consuming it.

cline is right, it depends on what your site is about. In our Time Trend reports, we have customers that peak at varying times of the week and it seems to suit their business. For example, someone who is selling consumer products might see more traffic Friday - Sunday, then drop during the week. Companies who target businesses would generally see higher traffic during the week.

Traffic is definitely down on the weekends for my clients. That's for sure. Almost 50% down.

One of my sites is aimed at people starting their own business. It's busiest on nights and weekends. This forum traffic peaks midweek and slows down on the weekend. I think it all relates to who your target audience is and what their surfing habits are.
