We link out of all our blogs to stuff our web visitors can use, like useful downloads etc. Problem is, those sort of pages sometimes have a short shelf-life. Is there some way to avoid having loads of old blogs with obsolete links in them - other than manual updating.

Is it appropriate to have a small disclaimer on your blog saying "Links were current on date blog was published'...or something along those lines?

There are tools like xenu that you can run to see if links are broken or not, but you'll still have to update manually.

It's worth it though. Nothing worse than pages with dead links.
