The biggest thing is this;

would you trust a solicitor who sent you a cookie cutter email saying that they could provide you with an automated legal service
would you trust a doctor who suggested that you get diagnosed via a multiple choice questionnaire
would you trust an accountant who gave a two line explaination when you asked how they intended to get you paying less tax

You are looking to put your trust in a company who have emailed you out of the blue, and are not willing /able to provide comprehensive information about the service they are offering. It is the web world equivalent to "take this elixir every day and you will never get cancer" do people fall for it, yep, can these companies make themselves sound credible to the uninitiated, yes they have a lot of practice, should you listen to them, nope, no way never.

If you are interested in getting SEO on your site, go and read the websites of a number of companies, find 4-5 you like, call them and ask them toi take a look at your site and give you some information on what service they will provide with costs, call them 2-3 more times if you need to until you can make a decision on which you like, and feel 100% confident with....just like you would if you were looking for any other professional service. (in fact, most people would put this much effort into buying a new TV, it's not a lot to do when your looking at a marketing campaign)

How do you figure? Since most of them have nofollow on the links and all.
