Yesterday Google announced it officially has over 6 billion items indexed.

From yesterday's press release of Google:

"Google's collection of 6 billion items comprises 4.28 billion web pages, 880 million images, 845 million Usenet messages, and a growing collection of book-related information pages."

From today's eMarketer:

"According to OneStat.com, Google has the greatest share of the worldwide search engine market with 56.1%." -

The Google market share will apparently drop significantly now that Yahoo Search is launched, since a good 25% of Google's 50+% was coming through the Yahoo partnership.

What does the 21.5% next to Yahoo in the chart refer to if 25% of the Google figure is from Yahoo?

Different web analytics companies will have different statistics about market share.

I put a pie chart of what the marketshare might look like, based on comScore Media Metrix data from August 2003.
