Looks like they're picking and choosing sites from the LookSmart directory. And they didn't pick mine

I am as happy as Larry with the results, my own site is #1 for most of its searched for terms, and never out of the top 6 for the secondaries.

MSN loves me, what did I do right? lol all i can think of is that I have defended microshaft on a few forums, maybe thats what it is.

Think I will go of and download the yahoo & MSN toolbars now, maybe that will help push my secondaries up a place or two Posted Image

My bet is Mid-November, in time for X-Mas. that's when everyone makes all the big SE changes <sigh>

That way it's too late for spammers to game the system in time for the season, plus you get to stress test, plus all sorts of other reasons, no doubt.

We all remember the "Florida" update (mid nov) and then there was the time that Yahoo switched from showing it's directory results to showing Google results (which REALLY annoyed webmasters who had paid for inclusion into the directory but didn't show up on searches in Yahoo, just in time for Xmas). No doubt there have been others, but those come readily to mind.

MSN would not have dumped LookSmart if they couldn't get a SE operational this year, I think, and November would give them enough time to test things and work out the inevitable bugs and issues.

Just my guess. Maybe we should have a contest on who guesses closest ;)

I think M$ will roll up theirs before the end of the year but the timing will be dependent on the status of Longhorn and when Longhorn is coming out. All the information from M$ suggests that their search technology will not only be for the web but also for desktop / network use and for the latter parts it will probably be tied in with WinFS ( the new psuedo file system thingy which will sit on top of NTFS in Longhorn).
