Logo Design -- Should I Learn It Myself?
Posted 05 December 2008 - 10:03 AM
The businessman learned HTML and even though he wrote solid code, he never had a way to learn the modern, proper application of the skills he learned. That's how it is with design to; it's more than just a good looking image, there are rules and guidelines to making a proper design, be it a logo, web or printed piece. If you go out and get some literature, join the right forums <wink> and dedicate yourself, you can learn the in's and out's of logo design, but be sure you put time into making sure you learned it right.
A good book to start with might be,
Design Matters: Logos 01: An Essential Primer for Today's Competitive Market
BTW, just joined the forum, it seems great here. Good thread.

You do realize that is can be a bad thing to set the bar so high by making one of your first posts so good right? People will expect you to measure up from now on.

I agree. Unless you have a personal interest in learning, hire a reasonably priced designer. Check Craigslist.
