I do think the majority of people here who follow our advice prolly don't see major fluctuations in general.

I agree, especially for older sites. Obviously, if a site gets wildly popular over night, it will see changes in successive updates.

For my site, I was really happy to see a PR 7 in the first part of the year, and have maintained the same pagerank and traffic for all of 2008.

Newer sites are usually a little more volatile and may see greater fluctuations, especially in the positive direction if they are being promoted well.

Then again, if they already had it indexed as www.domain.com/ (not with the page filename included) and the content change is recent you may simply be in a situation where Google is re-indexing and re-scoring the page. Where if you did nothing more than wait it out the page may come roaring back.

That's what I'd do first. Nothing for a few weeks.

Thanks a lot! After waiting one week both muż websites came back on page 1 of Gogle!

Nice for you! Unfortunately my sites still suffer from the penalty. Is there any news on this issue? Any other user experiences?

I also got hit by the page 6 penalty and many sites seem to get hit by this filter in the past 3 months. Something is up with Google and its not looking good. I hope i get out of this filter soon.

I apologize for not following this discussion more closely over the past three months. I never did collect much anecdotal evidence about Google's fall changes. As I expected, many of the fluctuations I noticed righted themselves again in January.

What I noticed was a slowdown in lag times from crawl-to-index and from index-to-ranking during the fall. I also noticed what appeared to be some new filtering although nothing really significant. And I noticed that certain queries made what appear to be permanent adjustments in rankings on a minor basis.

What happened in January and early February is more interesting, in my opinion.
