One of my sites rode out the Florida storm just fine.

But the January changes sent it into oblivion, with this strange twist.

Month in, month out the home page rank used to bounce between #3-5. Now, the google directory listing appears at #25.

Why would this "directory.google.com/Top/Shopping..." listing appear and not the home page? I never even noticed this listing before.

Should I demonstrate patience and let things ride, or are there some helpful moves I can make?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Google seems to be using more of a semantic approach to search which may also be reranking results based on local interconnectivity.

The best bet to get a site ranking well is to get inbound links from many similar websites (especially those which are viewed as fairly authoritative.)

Welcome ptalbot !

I would suggest a bit of patience. Sounds like you got caught in the second (Gladys) update. There's another update in process right now at Google, and lots of people are reporting similar results to those before the updates started. There's more info on that, and how to see what the new SERP's will look like, down in the Search Engine News category.
