In my link building process I have created a small directory for reciprocal links of interest for my site visitors by state or city. I would only add related sites to mine and it is totally free reciprocal linking. Is this an OK way of trading quality links.

Sure it is.

Sounds completely reasonable, as well as being useful for real users as long as you make sure to maintain a certain minimum standard.

Would it be right to email potential link partners for reciprocal links.

OK emails are out, I don’t like getting them either. I work on useful material for my site daily. I recently added two pages and pick up just over 4,000 visitors each month for the last five months and gained two sites linking to those pages according to G. Wow That’s not good ROI . Could I get some input on this link gathering process.

There are as many approaches to link building as there are people doing it. lol.gif

At the end of the day though getting quality backlinks always comes down to having a site and content worthy enough to meet or exceed the standards the webmasters of those quality sites. So there's your starting point.
