Hi all,

A good friend of mine that works for a domain registration company sent me an email recently highlighting some unusual results that she noticed by using Yahoo Site Explorer.

A competitor of theirs parks quite a number of their domain names that aren't being used with a

"this domain has been registered by Widgets.com. If you are the owner of this site and wish to login please visit your control panel"
"If you would like to register a domain name please click here"
"If you are interested in purchasing web hosting please click here"

Ok, the above isn't exactly the text used as the competitor is also using anchor text wherever they can to point to their home site.

Now, she is concerned that this seems to be something that could be helping the competitor within the SERPs, as the anchor text keywords are ones that the company is performing so well on, that they are an authority site. Their home page and other specific product pages are fairly thin on the ground when it comes to the keywords that they are an authority site for also.

Her own company has a huge amount of parked domain names following the same pratice as her competitors, but Yahoo Site Explorer is ignoring all of them.

Has anyone got a decent explaination for this? I don't believe that the competitor is using 1 million seperate ips to host these parked pages on either.

I can PM someone the specific URLs if they are interested also.

Many thanks

I rather doubt the single page parked domains are giving them much of an advantage, if there's any advantage at all to be had. Those are so easy to detect and discount it's not even funny, so I rather doubt Google is going to count them as real, valuable links, even though they might index the page if it has some links pointing to it.

If you want to PM me some urls of each example I'll be happy to take a look to see if I can spot a difference. But honestly I don't think those kinds of pages will be helping the other guys all that much.
