Hi

I look after
[removed] a hair loss website that listed very well in Google for the main keywords in the industry (hair loss) in the UK.

We created a blog about 18 months ago. I'll get straight to the point and then give some more details after - the stories don't seem to be being listed in Google but the site is definitely seen by Google.

OK so a few more details - I did a site search in Google specifically for the blog (site:...) and it found loads of pages. But if copy and paste the title of any of the pages in the blog, Google does not list them, even if they are more than a month old. Considering the home page of the website is listed number 5 for the most competitive key phrase in the industry - 'hair loss' I find this very strange.

This has not always been the case - it has only happened in the last month or so - pages seem to have disappeared from the listings - pages that were listed very high before.

A colleague of mine who works on articles thinks it may be to do with the fact that on our robots.txt page we have a site map link that does not contain pages from the blog (it has not been updated) but this has always been there and it is only recently that this problem has arisen. I am thinking about removing this page altogether - it was only added so that Google would see the harder to find pages which are not actually that imporatnt anyway so I'm not sure if it's worth it because the site itself is actually easy to navigate I believe.

I know people that have set up blogs recently and their stories are already listed in Google within the same day of writing them! Why isn't this happening for my blog?? I write new stories almost every day, and like to think they are useful and relvant!

One more point is that the URL of the blog used to be blog.sitename.com but now it is (www dot sitename dot com/blog - this was changed 6 months or so ago (maybe more) because I thought that if I made it part of the main website it would add value to our website as well as the blog itself.

Any help or opinions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Does your main site link to the blog and are there other sites linking to it?

And if so, is the content unique or from other sites?

The content is unique, relevant and frequently updated (almost daily - sometimes more than one a day). The main site has a link from the home page and feeds from almost every page (that link to specific pages). We try out best to get other sites linking - mainly article sites etc. So yes, there are sites linking. One page in particular has always been listed very high for its main keyphrase in Google and in the last month it has disappeared from this keyphrase completely! It's very strange - the same seems to have happened with the blog as a whole yet the main part of the website (home pages and non-blog-related pages) is as strong as ever.

This is one of those situations where it's impossible to know without checking it out. I'd suggest consulting with a qualified SEO company to have them access the situation. I'd guess it's a linking problem, but no way to know for sure.

Or it could be something blocking the content of the blog in the robots.txt for example. If you PM me the URL I'm happy to take a quick look to see whether I can find something obvious.
