Probably not going to push existing stuff down as much as one might guess, as they obviously got a large percentage of the highly-linked sites in the past few years.

I'd hazard a guess that the new pages are either from deeper crawling of large sites, or picking up the cats and dogs they hadn't bothered with before.

We'll see, if we haven't already.

I finally got brave (and wanted to take a break from what I was doing!) and checked out our ranking for a very general keyword and we moved from 24 last night to 12! Sorry it ain't treating you so well, Ledfish. Though I know this current ranking will change in 10 minutes!

I don't understand what's going on with this update...I had keywords and keyword phrases that were all up in the top 10 of the listings....

NOW today some have been dropped...this update is like one of those super bouncy rubber balls...Google seems to be extremely busy ...

UGH! (just venting so I don't feel alone up here in Toronto)

This is "suppose" to be over in 2 days? Is that the general thought...?

Originally according to Googleguy on WW, it was supposed to be over last weekend, then about last Saturday Googleguy informed us that it might take till Monday or Tuesday, then he stated on Wednesday Night that it would most likely wrap on Thursday.

Well it's Friday night, nothing is stable and the serp are poor in most people opinion because they aren't what Googleguy had given an example for what they would be. Either Googleguy didn't know what he was talking about or the brain trust at the Google Plex isn't qualified to operate a remote control car.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I am basically seeing what the 64.x database had and have been since early yesterday.

I am seeing changes being made though. I am guessing they are doing tweaks here and there to hopefully weed out the spammers but the results are definitely not jumping like they were before.

Appears the heat is getting to be to much for Google over at WW, they "locked" the brandy update topic. I'm thinking that Google just does not know what to say.

Know what to say to what? And to who? IMO there is no way they are going to make everyone happy all the time and unfortunately, "we are working on it" just isn't cutting it for some people. I think the changes are still slowly moving on. The SERPs that I watch have had some shifts since Brandy seemed to settle down for my terms. That tells me that they are still working on things on their end. It's nice that GG offers information, but to expect play by play answers about what is going on is unrealistic.

I'd just be happy with a simple "We are working on it", but you can't even seem to get them to acknowledge it needs some tuning.

I think you just have to think that they won't allow bad results to stay put like they are in some SERP sectors.

I AM seeing changes being made. I have a site wholely devoted to affiliate links. When 64.x stayed propogated I was at #5 for the product I was promoting.

I am now pushed back about 10 spots and google has put front line sellers on the main page where they belong IMO. Sucks for me where affiliate revenue goes (Thank goodness Y! still likes the site :) ) but I took the ranking while I had it knowing full well that it may not last.

I still have faith that google is trying to get the best results out there for the searchers and won't stop until they are satisfied with how things look. It just takes time. And in this case, it could take quite a bit of time...

I noticed this morning that where I have had a #1 position for 7 phrases, I just run DP tracker and I am now showing 1&2 so IMO we must be close to settling down now, maybe, or just starting all over again. :D

I think we might be settling down a bit - which pleases me a great deal. I took a big hit for my business and one of my main clients with Gladys/Austin, but as of about 4 days ago or so I started to see the wonderful results of this new update. I was hesitant to actually admit this (scared I might jinx myself) until today...

Someone said earlier they think this update cleared out alot of spammy sites. From my point of view (my business and my clients) it seems to me as though there is now less weight given to the larger national sites and thus more relevance if you are searching with a geographical qualifier (i.e. keyword1 keyword2 state).

ephricon, maybe Google is following market trends. I read this week somewhere, that local searching (searching for local companies) accounted for a huge % of searches.

I think the figure quoted was either 60% or 80%, cant remember which. :D

come to think of it, I alone probably do enough local searches to skew those figures a couple of points :D

My site seems to have reappeared in the mid 40s across most of my variant terms as of today. Not a bad place to be. Also there seems to have been some chnge in how that +www or +http thing works.
The results are looking much better although there still are some strange listings. Theres one in particlular that was bugging me. PR0 with 1 incoming link, not really optimized. Was P 2 before updaete. now P 9. This is for a term that people bid $3 for a clickthough in adwords. Main competetitor has managed to keep P1 thoughout all change since november so am optimistic I can have reasonable stability in future once I overtake him with linking strategy. P2 would still be an adequate place to be since his site takes 12 seconds to load anyhows!

Cheers,

D
