Hey everyone,

In threads I posted last night, I saw some major changes in the SERPs for a short time period.

This morning on WMW, googleguy says there is another update coming and while the IP address for the up and coming database has been edited in the post, I believe it is http://64.233.161.99/

The thread on WMW where the announcement was made is http://www.webmaster...orum3/21949.htm

Go Google! :embarrassed: I am seeing a great results for my field.

Actually, Grumpus told us there was a new update a few days ago. (Which of course, I didn't believe!)

I'm assuming this is all part of that same one? Unless Grumpus's was just a 3 day update!

No worries. No one ever believes me.

Looks like all the folks who have been seeing lots of spammy sites are going to like this update.

And, yup , it's all part of the same update I was talking about. Backlinks update first, so that's how you see it starting. Once the backlinks are updated, the results start to shuffle and that's where it gets interesting.

And I though I was so clever. ;) I guess it could be either depending on what the end results are. But with reports of old rankings returning, it could be a good thing!

Um, the first post in that thread says that at least one of the datacenters already has the "change" (as Googleguy calls it). Remember, even if there is algo stuff going on all month (as has been since November) an update - in the sense that PR and Backlinks are updated - takes 7 to 10 (or sometimes more if it's a deep month) to propogate. Major Keep the Faith When the Keep the Faith When the Algo Changes also tend to follow the main database updates. The tweaking we've been seeing goes on all the time, but the new "change" to the algo is in fact on at least one datacenter now and appears to be propogating itself normally across the rest.

I don't see anything in Googleguy's posts that say that this isn't happening now. All he says is that we won't always be able to see it happening as we used to be able to.

Okay, I guess I misunderstood his post? He says that a specific database has the change that that the change will probably roll out over the weekend so I interpretted that as sort of a flick of a switch type thing and not a gradual change.

Having said that, I didn't read the thread that he referred to in his post, so there could be information I don't have.

You could call it the "Valentines Amendment" or the "Valentines Massacre" depending on which side of the fence you are on! (Provided it copies after midnight)

From what I see, I'd call it the "Valentines Amendment"

We could name it "Cassandra" in honor of Grumpus. (For those not up on their Greek mythology, she was a seer who could foretell the future, but because she rebuffed the romantic advances of Apollo he cursed her so that she could still predict events, but no one would believe her.)

Awww. :spam2: Thanks!

I wasn't predicting anything in this case though. I just saw that it was happening and reported it.

Hopefully, by this time next week, all will be propogated and we can start watching the algo "work itself out" for the next few weeks.
