It is from data they have collected from their existing crawlers.

Thanks for clarifying that MakeMeTop, I agree it is an algorithm applied to the data from Yahoo owned crawlers,
i think mainly Slurp data is used by yahoo algorithm, We have been seeing heavy hittings by INKTOMI bot for the past 3 months on the sites we monitor, So we are getting close to a Yahoo switch here,
Results seem to be really good so probably Yahoo is going to be a direct competitor with google,

Hi-

Maybe you haven't noticed, but not only do Yahoo results no longer say "powered by Google", but a URL search results in the same format as at AlltheWeb:

Web pages that contain "www.xxx.com"
Web pages that link to "www.xxx.com"
Discover who owns "www.xxx.com"
See how "www.xxx.com" used to look"

Below the site listing.

This appears to be the result for sites with PFI in Fast. I haven't checked it extensively, though, in order to see if this is exactly what is happening.

Fun! Definitely Yahoo has become a place to "watch this space"!

I was looking yesterday afternoon, and the "powered by Google" was still there. It looks like the official switchover happened overnight US time.

For the first time, I too don't see the *Powered by Google* blurb at the bottom of Yahoo! and I'm seeing different GREAT RELEVANT results. Love the results... I see SE usage trends changing in the future. I'm sick of directory/info results on Google, even as consumer I cannot find what I'm looking for.

Hmm... I went to go check out the results. (CNet news has an article, if it hasn't already been mentioned: Yahoo dumps Google search technology).

I'm noticing that certain domains that sit on the same IP are showing up for the same search on Yahoo. I.E. if you search for a specific phrase and then allow "omitted search results to appear" then you'll get the same page under multiple domains that sit at that IP. The same search does not have this effect in Google.

Is this something that proper server configuration can fix? Something people view as harmless? Or am I going to have to push my smaller clients to hosting where they get their own IP?

Multiple domains on the same IP (from reputable hosts, of course) seem to be getting more common, not less, and I hate to "waste" IP addresses... Any information would be appreciated.

I have seen that there may be a ranking boost for Yahoo Directory subscribers.

Two clients of mine rank well across the SE for several particular search terms. One has a Yahoo Directory subscription and the other does not. The one with the Subscription is consistently showing top results in the new Yahoo while the other is a bit further down. Both rank about equal using pure Ink results at Hotbot.

Has anyone else seen this?

If it proves true, it may be time to consider the $299 sign up fee for the Yahoo!Directory.

I'm not in the directory and I rank in the top 10 for all my targeted keyword phrases. Same with a lot of my clients.

HTH,

Same here, No directory listings to 90% of clients still very good results, So yahoo is a More SEO friendly search engine ;)

Ok here is the Yahoo switch article in searchenginewatch.com,

Yahoo! Birth of a New Machine

Extracts from the article which looks unique to yahoo search engine,,

The Yahoo Search index is capturing the full text of web pages, up to a 500K limit. This is greater than the 101K maximum indexed by Google.

Interestingly, in almost all of my tests with random queries, Yahoo reports more results found than Google.

Hmm, I guess I'm not getting the kind of results you guys are. Since the Yahoo switcheroo, my site has disappeared for two of my key phrases. And the site is in the Yahoo directory.
