As we've got people here from all over the world, I thought I'd bring this up: About half an hour ago, CNN reported that the power is out in NYC and its suburbs, along with Detroit, Cleveland, Toronto, Ottowa, and a number of other cities in North America.

I'm in Boston, and so far everything is fine here (or I wouldn't be able to post). Does anyone else have news about this? The only theory I've heard about what caused the outage in NY is a fire at a power plant in Manhattan.

The latest word is that this was caused by an overload of the Niagara Mohawk power grid, which is up around where New York borders on Ontario. So it seems to be effecting a lot of the area around the Great Lakes and other areas that get their power from there.

Canton Ohio rules! Everything around us is down, yet we are up and running smooth, because everything 15 miles north of us is on another power grid.

On a side note: I love these local News guys on TV telling everyone without power to remain calm and drink water. Um, here's news, if I can see the TV, i have power. d-oh! <_<

I have two generators just in case. I can live without water but I don't think I'll make it without my computor. Or is it the other way around? :aloha:

It must suck to have power out especially now in the summer! Hopefully everything comes back on by tommorrow. At least powerlines aren't down.

It looks like the lights are coming back on little by little in Manhattan right now, so at least they may not have to spend the night in the dark.

A friend of mine was attending a play on Broadway the last time this happened, back in the 1970s, and he says that the cast brought candles onto the stage and finished off the performance.

This is odd... the friend I mentioned in the last post (who lives on the Upper East Side of Manhattan) just sent me an email! Through this whole thing, he says his PC has been working. I guess he must have a battery backup on it.
