I've read this site for a long time, but never posted cause I didn't feel I had much to offer! My wife and I launched a site last year and underestimated the SEO work involved (I read too many do-it-yourself articles saying how easy it is), we have since hired an SEO company that is really doing a good job, but still I really enjoy this forum and all the smarties on it.
Having said that, I recently read an article that encouraged website owners to not use Google Analytics because it has provides information to Google that could potentially harm your search engine rankings - the author used the example "do you really want Google to know each visitor only stays 15 seconds?" Just was curious about the forum's opinion on this...
I am currently using Webilizer and don't like the program, would like to use something else, but can't am uncertain which program I think I should use.

I've not seen any evidence whatsoever that Google is using GoAn data the way you've mentioned. None. Nada.
Does this mean they couldn't? Sure they could use Google Analytics data at any point in the future in an effort to improve their search results. However I doubt they're going to start penalizing sites that have given up the data to them for free. This sort of thing would be awfully counter productive.

also, the time spent on a page is not always a measure of the quality of the page - it depends on its purpose. for example, if google is doing its job, you will only spend a second on the search result page before clicking on a result.

Don't worry circleck, Google has other "methods" to know how many time the users spend in your site.
My advice is to use the tools that are the best for the mesurement the traffic of your site. If you think Google Analytics is the best tool to track your site, just use it. Analytics will not "hurt" your SEO and it's a one of the best tools to know what is happening in your webpage.

I'm also new to this forum,
I've had one of my website for few years now with PR2. My ranking has not changed since I installed "analytics" around 2 years ago(i think). It still sits at 2

Not sure what your point is here. Are you saying you think there's some relationship between displayed Toolbar PR and your analytics package -- or between Toolbar PR, your analytics choice and your actual search engine rankings?
