Looking for a definate 'no it wont hurt' answer haha

I could use some php on my site, indeed the home page itself.

Currently defaults as html.

As oppose to change the filename and make a mess of everything I understand that it can be made to parse as php by using some rewrite in the .htaccess file.

i.e AddType application/x-httpd-php .htm .html

or

AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .php .html .htm .php3

Can somebody of Randys ilk tell me if this will work and definately not effect serps etc and also the most uptodate code to use as I found these from very dated posts etc.

Thanks

Yep it will work as for affecting the SERPs ....

that pretty much depends on what you do with the pages, but having them parsed via the php interpreter won't affect anything.

Hey Chris, thnx,

I dont want to do anything bad with the pages obviously :-)

I hate taking any risks (unknowns) with this particular site at all. I would have changed host a long time ago if wasnt so paranoid about it haha, (unfortunately Im with ipower who are really awful but having had one or two sites hosted there for many years I am reluctant to change them.)

I simply want to change some rotate content snippets from js to php so that it gets picked up.

Im hopeing that this is basically the way to do it that is invisible.

Sounds like it is then.

which of the two above codes are the current recommended implimentation?

This is the .htaccess that we use on most of our sites:

CODE
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .html .htm
