Do you beleive this will happen, and what effect do you think this will have on G! and SEO in general.
Do DMOZ links really count for much in SEO terms anymore?
Will they count for less if sold?
What's your thoughts on this?

None.
Not any more than any other decent directory link, which isn't much. Those might help with Discovery, but there are other ways to accomplish that.
Or to put it another way, I haven't even bothered to submit any of my sites to DMOZ in about 5 years. My total disregard of DMOZ certainly hasn't hurt my sites' rankings any.

So if it was someone elses attempt to get em to link to them they failed miserably.
I'm not sure i've ever heard of or visited Shoemoney, so i'm gonna fight the urge to go check em out incase you're really part of this global conspiracy to increase their visitor base.

There are so many submissions a day. I was an editor a few years ago in the vinyl and record shop section, I became an editor because i wanted to be part of it. There was friction between editors, and your submissions are randomly checked out by a superior editor as well. Also not everyone logs in to deal with it all every day for example. It could be every month or whatever the rules are nowadays.
I think DMOZ still drives traffic but I also think it's as important as any other good directory. Does the purchase from BOTW mean monetization? I don't know. I left DMOZ as an editor because I got bored and felt overworked
