Changes to Google Adwords - The rules change a little
Official adwords post
commentary
Main Elements
1. Quality Score - They say..... Who cares? IMO we won't know what this means before we get our hands dirty. Google rarely feeds useful info in this area. For what it's worth, its about timing. When your, ads, landing pages, etc are evaluated.
2. Inactive for Search Status - Removed. Instead you just won't get any impressions.
3. Minimum bid - Removed. Replaced by minimum first page bid. This will negatively affect those that are bidding low on SERPs with <8-11 advertisers. Can't say I am surprised. I suspect these SERPs have higher then average differences between the top 2-3 bidders & the bottom 2-3. Gogle have strong incentive to encourage clicks on the top advertisers.
My thoughts
The QS evaluation in real time ( part of 1) may be a technological improvement of some sort improving the system.
However, generally speaking, I think these changes (particularly 1 & 2) are a move towards less transparency, with less complaints. No more complaining about your ads being inactive for search on HR. Instead, you just won't know that they are. 3 will get complaints. But it is very logical form Google's perspective. If you have $2 bidders & $0.20 bidders on the same page, get the latter off the page. I believe they have been using QS to achieve this aim on the quite anyway. I prefer the transparency. I think it is a move towards a more controlled economy. They'll move the minimum pegs this way & that way, but it's clear that we best forget the 5c click days.
*Jill, yet another example of how we need a modern 'HR News'
