MS announces IE8 and moments later we have- Google Chrome.
It seems that IE is still not standards compliant (there are conflicting opinions so far),
but seems to be running at +/- 50%, but Chrome is claiming 99% out of the gate...
They say that testing has been intense, especially on pages with high PR
The big schlameel is that each tab will run in a discreet process.

Supposed to be out by Tues the 2nd at /chrome

They are talking about the REAL PR which (in theory) are the most linked to pages, which again (in theory) are the pages most likely to be visited by a wide range of people.

So if those pages can be handled by their browser, it should cover most os the bases.

I'm not too interested at the moment. Quite happy with Firefox.

If it's Safari based, it could be a useful aid when designing on a PC for those that don't have a Mac.

/chrome now live

Nice browser, simple, opens fast...
but who needs it??
especially with FF now so well developed, w/ all the SEO plugins...
The "seperate process per tab" thing is nice, but rarely does errant JS crash FF anyway

Seems very much like FF as far as page presentation

Actually, I'm using it right now and it does some things MUCH better than Firefox.

I've never liked Firefox. I don't know if I'll like Chrome but it's not nearly as bad as Firefox.

I have so many FF extensions I use on a daily basis, I can't see switching to something else at this point, unless it somehow imports all the extensions with it.

On Jill's link, leave out the /index.htm, or at least I had to. I've downloaded the beta version and am about to take it for a spin:-)

I took it for a little test run and that baby is fast!!!! I could get used to that as I'm a speed demon cool.gif I opened up a second tab and was on the page where there's a youtube video on Chrome and that page crashed. At first I thought, oh well, I'll open it again tomorrow....but only the one tab crashed. It was great biggrin.gif I hadn't realized how annoying it was having IE crash for all my tabs if one tab crashed. I think the speed and the way only one tab crashed is definitely an improvement on IE. I might hold off using it exclusively until they're out of Beta but it looks good to me!
