I wonder how much having a certificate such as this would help someone get an seo job if they run there own business?

I'm not sure how much it would help for that. I think it might be more useful for those looking to work for other companies.
But aside from the certification, MarketMotive is truly an awesome resource for those trying to learn SEO. We love it when we have new employees as they get so much out of it since the presenters are just so darn good!
It's like going to a conference from the comfort of your own office!
