Hello,
I would like to ask you for help/advice on following issue with my website.
The server I host the website on had unfortunately some troubles and was down for a while. It seems like Google was crawling the website at that time (8th August) and Google webmaster tools statistics were showing Web crawl error few days after. It was 4xx error and it was appearing there for couple of days, but 7 days ago it disappear and was not showing anymore which is good.
However the homepage is still removed from the cache and it doesn't come up among indexed pages of the website "site:" (I have about 100 pages indexed but no homepage). As addition to this, PR of my homepage went down from 4 to 0!
Googlebot last successfully accessed my home page on Aug 4, 2008 but since then, even though I resubmitted the sitemap, didn't come.
Any suggestions please? It is very incovenient having the homepage removed from Google for such a long time (Yahoo and MSN are OK) just because of the server went down once for a short time.

There's really not much you can do except wait, and hope that your server says up and running.
The page(s) got removed from the index because nothing was found when Googlebot tried to visit. Apparently things are now fixed. Now you need to wait while they update each of their datacenters to reflect that the site is up and available again.

How long does it usually take and when I should start getting seriously concerned about it?
Is there any way of bringing Googlebot to the homepage sooner?

It depends. Mainly upon how important Google considers your site to be and how often they spider it. If you get spidered every few days expect a resolution in a couple of weeks, assuming the server issue are now fixed.
Remember though, it's not just one Googlebot visit. You're needing to get all of the Google Datacenters updated. So you'll probably see it show up on one search, then disappear as you connect to a different datacenter, then show up, then disappear. Tis the nature of the beast I'm afraid.

Nope. Nothing that's remotely reliable.
