I've just noticed that one of my affiliates (link exchange) has no follow links in his site.

SO, when a bot (Google for example) directs to his site, It doesn't follow the link? - example : <a href="hxxp://site.com" rel="nofollow">site.com</a>, So If the link is nofollow, then google doesn't follow it, So Google doesn't see this site linking to any other, So this way the other sites that link to the site looks to Google to be linking for free, So the site ranks high for it's keyword.

Probably what's happening with my "affiliate"...Does it work?

Google still follows the link, they just don't pass any PageRank value to the linked page.

Why do you care if they do or do not notice the link exchange? Not really sure what you're getting at with your questions.

Since these are affliliate links, how are you tracking affiliate sales? Surely there's something else in the url than your base page or site address to make the connection, right?

If so, your base page isn't getting any link pop anyway. Because www.site.com/ doesn't not equal www.site.com/?affid=12345 anyway!

unless you 301 redirect all incoming affiliate links after processing query string!

Since these are affliliate links, how are you tracking affiliate sales?

In some circles, "site friends" who exchange links between sites are referred to as "affiliates". The folks at myspacepros.com forum are a perfect example of the type of webmasters who use the term this way.

To answer the original post... as Jarret said, nofollow links (supposedly) do not pass any "PR juice". If by "affiliate" you mean "site you have exchanged links with", your affiliate is trying to screw you over by getting link juice from your site without offering the same in turn.

Visitors can still click the links and arrive on the target pages which is what affiliations are REALLY about.
