We recently switched our ecommerce website to a new platform, and with that we had to do some 301 redirects. On our website we discontinued some items so what I did was redirect the users to a category page related to that item. So for example if we had a certain automatic pet feeder that was discontinued I would redirect that page to the automatic pet feeders category page, or I would redirect it to a similar product or a newer model of that product. The question and concern is that for some products it made sense to redirect them to the same page. So for example old product 1 and old product 2 both are redirected to new product A.
Is there a problem with redirecting to old URLs to the same page? Will it hurt me in the search engines to have multiple redirects to one page, or multiple redirects back to the home page?
To help you answer this question these are all 301 redirects. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

No and No.
You've done exactly what you should have done by redirecting them to the most appropriate still existing page.
