Hi -

On my company's website I have set up Wordpress and have been creating postings there. The blog is at mydomain dot com slash blog.

All that is working fine.

On our website, I initially chose to call it "Articles" rather than "Our Blog" because I figured that, for our audience (the adult children of seniors needing specialized care and advice services), helpful "articles" would sound more appealing than "blog".

However, I just used <tool name removed> and it told me that I don't have a blog on the site and that my site would do better from a seo standpoint if I had one.

So, does that sound right? If I'm using Wordpress and it's in a subdir called "blog", won't Google figure out that it's a blog?

Thanks,
Tim

1. It doesn't matter what you call it for SEO purposes. The engines could care less if it's a blog or article directory. So call it what makes most sense for your real human visitors.

2. Don't believe everything some tool tells you. Most of them give such bad advice it's not even funny. Including the recommendation that every site needs a blog, which is just silly.

The answer to your question is simple. Stop using that tool.

Tools give general advice. A blog is a good way of creating topical content, which can be beneficial from an SEO standpoint. But the benefits come from having topical content not a blog.

The name has no effect. Ignore the tool.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond to my request for help. I really appreciate it.

Your responses affirmed my belief that the most important thing is to make the site, and its content, useful and valuable for our intended audience!

Thanks,
Tim
