Hi

Some of you might feel this topic more suitable for some other forum sections, but I found it more appropriate here.

geting to my query.. I have read some old articles(published in 05) on integrating RSS feeds of some news websites and frequently updated blogs, ezines into almost static websites for the purpose of geting SEO benefits. I m quite convinced that this process will help in improving crawl rate, but need to know what would be other benefits of this process. Will it help in improving search engine rankings as well? or it will help in improving Link popularity? If yes, how?

Any comments?

Sorry I don't have an answer. But I do have a couple of questions:

1. Why do you think that it will improve crawl rates? Looks like it is more frequently updated?
2. Why do you need to increase the frequency of crawls? I ask because I think you would only need to be frequently crawled if you are updating frequently with freshness-sensitive info (like news). You would only need this if you are targeting queries that are likely to surge ('Cyclone relief') briefly and then decline. If this is so you need to get content indexed before it is past its use-by and getting crawled fast is important. But if this is the case, then I assume you have new content frequently and so do not need to appear to be refreshing more often (because you actually are). Otherwise, what use is being crawled.

In my experience, most sites (excepting very new sites) usually get crawled more frequently then they are updated. The only reason to need a site to be crawled more frequently then it is updated, is if you rarely have news (almost an oxymoron).

Basically, I don't understand why a site that doesn't get refreshed that often (not that that's bad) needs to be crawled so regularly. In my experience, 'crawl rate' has rarely been an issue. I can only see it as an issue for

As far as helping you with your rankings: Probably not. At least not directly. The SEs don't want two sites in a SERP because of identical content (IE, if the article, post is relevant to the query only one of the sites hosting it should get into the SERP). But then indirectly, if it makes your site more useful and get link that way or the original authors (who you are 'reprinting') link to you, etc.
