Assessing Websites For Reciprocal Linking Or Other

Hi
I'm wondering what is the best way of assessing whether a site is worth exchanging links with. I usually look at the page rank and check traffic stats. Only prob with the result of traffic stats is that I don't really have anything to compare it with to know if it's good or bad other than it will say if it's in the top 100,000 or not. Another question I have is about the "your search didn't match any criteria" message when you select cached snapshot of page from the pagerank menu on the google toolbar. Does this mean the site/page isn't indexed by google? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

That message means the page is not Cached by Google. This could happen for a variety of reasons, including the page instructing the spiders not to archive a copy of the page.

As far as your main question, the thing I'd be most interested in is whether the page/site in question is likely to attract the type of person that makes up my target market. If they do, I could care less what their PageRank is or what some service says their traffic volume may or may not be. I want links from those places because I get not only the link benefit, but a very real possibility of getting direct sales from the link.

Thanks Randy! You're right, makes a lot more sense to keep in mind the relevancy of a link and your target market as opposed to page rank & traffic stats.

This is an easy one.

Since you're exchanging links, it means that you will need to link TO the other site. In which case, the ONLY criteria should be whether you believe the site in question will be of value to those people who visit your website.

Any other criteria would be wrong and/or short-sighted.
