Talk about invasion of privacy, just saw on the news last night that they just passed a new law allowing employers to get your medical records once you have reached $15,000 worth of medical bills. It already passed here and will be coming to a state near you soon...
No, it won't have your name on it (to protect your privacy
) but once someone has your private medical records, it is not too difficult to figure out who is who.
Employers also can obtain the:
dates of service
future costs and treatment plans for each condition
They claim employers want this info to determine which type insurance plan they should get...not many of us are naive enough to believe that. Many will use the information to decide who is expensive (as in who needs to actually use the insurance they pay for each month) and fire them. Leaving those who really need insurance the most without any insurance coverage at all because they lost it along with their jobs.
Under the new law, employees would have no way of knowing — or objecting — if their bosses sought their medical records.
Before you know it, this information will end up being shared with pharmaceutical companies that will be marketing various drugs to you, depending on what your medical conditions are, perhaps even on your mobile phone when you visit your doctors office
or your local pharmacy.
Just another reason it is better working for yourself...working with clients rather than for an employer.
