We currently have a forum that still runs on software that is at least a decade old. There has been talk of adding a blog, but I made the powers that be hold on until we focused on the having a theme and a real reason to write. As for the community we have a bit of a niche market and it would be nice to let our users create their own spaces featuring their projects to share with everybody.
If anybody has any suggestions or recommendations it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Their forum software is arguably the best you can get and their new beta version has all kinds of great social networking kinds of things (individual blogs, photo galleries, etc).
Wrapping it into a blog is pretty easy. You can do like I did on and old site of mine and have a single forum power the blog entries on the front page (notice their "Music News" on the front). You configure a forum so that only admins can create new threads, but anyone can reply, and have those new threads show up on the front. If you don't want to do that, there are plenty of plug-ins and other options to get it done.

Invision has all that, they're separate modules that you purchase.

SilverStripe is new and promising. It doesn't have the same strong support community yet, but its growing. The software is quite easy to use, and it has forum and ecomm plugins.
