Hy my name is Stephen J Arnett, I read that having keywords in bold or as a larger font size helps SE's to hit those phrases.

I cannot logically think why this would make a jot of difference, but does anyone know if this is true???

I believe there was a time when this was true but isn't true anymore. Just like spamming the meta keyword tag used to be SEO tongue.gif

I wouldnt say that it isnt true in all circumstances. Highlighting words or phrases with any form of style different to the rest of the page can alert it to be of some importance. It is the level of importance that is the question. It is generally percieved that it doesnt have a great deal of weight on its own but i may be one of 300 things that goes into the algorithms.

Search engines don't read CSS so won't "see" any font changes

What they will see is specific tags you're using to make text stand out visually from the rest of the page. Some tags will do that by default: <b>, <strong>, <i>, and <em>. You can use your CSS to change the way text in those tags displays (as long as you make sure it continues to display differently from normal text), or you can just let them do what they do by default, and the search engines will get the message.

On the other hand, if you use the CSS to create some special class for a tag that doesn't normally stand out, then the visual display will be the only way the text stands out, and as Chris said, the search engines won't get it.
