It's not an ideal solution, very annoying for people like us who are just trying to build decent web sites, but I can see Googles point so I have to begrudgingly agree that it's the best solution about for now :-(
The best way to get past it is a ) spend the waiting time building up a quality site that people will like, b ) try to get decent inbound links to show Google that other people on the net think you're worthy of coming out of the sandbox and c ) patience
A ) will mean that when the sandbox ends you should get some decent results , b ) will help to speed up the end of the delay and c ) will stop you going mad while you wait.
Hope that helps

I don't know where you're getting your information drmadcow, but you need to stop reading there. We've had to correct several things you've said in the last 24 hours, including this one.
Yes all sites need links. But getting more links doesn't help you get out of Google's aging delay any faster.
Again this is not only wrong, but dangerous.
If you happen to purchase a domain that was allowed to expire because it had already been burned to the ground by someone else, the 301 is going to confer all of that bad karma on your own site. It'll never rank well if that happens.
