Hi,
I am new to this forum but six months old in SEO, had enough with florida and austin update.

I started my career well and placed the site in top 70s and 150s(very very competitive phrases) in two months and was going pretty good. But then florida and I was throuwn out of the universe, now getting back to 100s but I heard austin is coming the way.

Now a days what do you do ? earlier (post-florida)
1)Title - 10%
2)links - 50%
3)contents - proper placement of the key phrases - 30%(including h1,h2)e.tc.
4)other factors like alt, dmoz, yahoo

(I am talking for GoOgle's point of view as that gives me the maximum), now with OOP(over -optimization penalty) and the steeming, what is your startegy.

Thanks
Aji

Welcome, Aji!

What's "Austin"?

Do you mean Gladys, the latest Google update?

We have a whole thread on that here:

I am an active member of webmasterworld , there we called it austin, do you guys call it "Gladys".

If someone can summarize the finding for me that will be a big help as that is a long thread with a lot a extra comments.

What is the strategy you people are following after that?
(Mine is now more or less stable in 100s, not bousing too much with the updates).

Thanks
Aji

Hey Aji,
An active member here was the first to suggest something is happening weird in some other data centre, When I checked WMW nothing special was there, a little later a thread was started in WMW supporters forum that a major update has begin and it was named Austin, So we have the credit and we Named it "gladys"
And For florida we worked out lots of strategy and theories, you can read all those in this 93 page thread.

To summarize what is happening in Gladys thread nothing special no special theories since this update just seems to be a continuation of the Florida update, Same stemming, same attempt by google to match the query without the exact match on the pages nothing too special in this update,
The words and phrases which escaped florida got affected in this update, that's all,
If you read the florida thread you will learn what is happening in "gladys". Read the florida thread and spread the word of HR forum :)

Thanks Vijay,

In florida it was OOPs(Over optimization penalties), What most of did that time was,
1) de-optimized the pages, by reducing the key word density, no exact words in the title and h1.
2) changed the linking strategy a bit, mix of anchor texts.
3) relative words added(stemming).

Now I concentrating on the contents and trying to keep it just from the user point of view. Also doing a lot of link exchange with the related sites.

Regards
Aji
