Sorry Barry, I guess I forgot to state "screen name"

I don't personally use the tool deverill used in his example.

Barry, you're actually hitting the "reply quote" button, which is why the animation shows up. If you hit "fast reply" or "add reply" further down, you won't quote the previous post and no animations will show up.

Great replies folks, sorry for my absence.

Brian, you're right. I am trying to avoid being the "loudmouth troublemaker" and just calling him on what I'm 99% sure about.

Mike, that's what's working for me - asking "innocent" questions and letting him reply - my bosses aren't dumb so they are seeing the facts.

Kexster, thanks for the comments. I actually don't dislike the guy but fear where he may lead us unchecked. I honestly do hope he steps up his game.

Tom, the difference is that this marketing firm is pushing him as an SEO expert, whether they used that exact term or not. He is just one person on the team but they are acting as if he's all-knowing. Maybe that's their misunderstanding of what SEO is - I doubt he lied about his skills and I believe he has done good for us to some degree. It's troubling how people outside the company can be seen as experts with no proof and the guy in the company that shows benefits is discounted because he "works for us". <sigh>

ttwblb - I apologize for the vagueness during my original post. The phrase was +oursite.+com -site:oursite.com It was given to me by a successful SEO person and seems to work well for finding backlinks. You are, of course, right that a keyword phrase would be useless for this purpose.

and finally...
Hyperformance - It is so easy to lose scope and focus on something like this so much I end up not doing what I get paid for. I have a lot of opportunity to keep my hand in the conversations and still not hurt my other duties so I'll leave the SEO to nights and weekends on my sites and just ask those annoying questions when necessary to stop the misinformation.

Thanks to all for the input. It's like I said something at the supper table and my family all chipped in and gave their input. I'm glad I'm here to get benefit from the experience of you all.
