Using A Background Image

I realize both techniques are wrong, but I am curious to know if the spiders can pickup on the image matching the text?

My guess would be that they wouldn't automatically spot it. It would probably take someone "snitching" on the site for them to take notice. (And even then, nothing might happen.)

I can't, of course, tell you what is on an image, but it takes only a few lines of code to determine if it is transparent or a largely solid color and, if the latter, what the color is.
I'm not saying they do, because the evidence suggests they don't. But they could.

Little did I know I was really using old tricks that aren't looked upon very well!
Google did read it fully though. I then went back and changed the text colour so people could read it anyway. Fihured if it was good for the search engine it would be good for my visitors.
