I am thinking of submitting to other search engines using position tech.

As i only have one website do i just submit my index page and the rest will also be indexed just like what google has done.

Or

do i have to pay for every single page in my site as i have about 50 pages it will cost me to much to submit everysingle page.

Thanks

Only the pages you pay for inclusion for will be indexed for sure. The others may or may not get indexed. And this is true even if you don't pay for any pages.

So is this statement from Google's site incorrect?

Only the top-level page from a host is necessary; you do not need to submit each individual page. Our crawler, Googlebot, will be able to find the rest.

It's true if you provide Googlebot with a path to get to those pages. I've always found that a site map linked to from the home page with a text link works very well, but isn't absolutely necessary.

Just make sure you offer text links from the home page that provide a path to easily navigate through the entire site.

mfogel, yes, that's true as far as Google is concerned. However, Google doesn't offer paid-inclusion and the other engines that do offer it, don't do things the same way Google does. So this is a totally separate issue than the question originally asked.

Hi jill

Thanks for the reply

I have text links on my webpage, and google has indexed the rest of the site. If i add a site map will this help at all,

Will a site map help in paid inclusion, so if only submit one URL can the rest of my site be indexed this way.

I did notice jill metioned that it may or not.

Thanks

With paid inclusion (Inktomi, FAST and Teoma), they only index what you submit and pay for. However, these engines also crawl the web outside of inclusion and it is when those spiders visit your site that they can and will crawl links they find and include those pages in their indices.

With PFI, I always wait and see if the search engines listed above crawl and include pages for free first before paying for inclusion. If it is a new site you will want to make sure it gets crawled and included and if it is an older site and you have made changes to it, you will want to make sure those changes are picked up by the search engines listed above.

But to answer your question, no a pay for inclusion spider will only crawl the URL you pay for.

Hi

How long roughly could it take inktomi to index or rather reindex our site? We uploaded the new site version mid december and Im just wondering potentially how long I should wait before I do PFI. As at the moment inktomi only seems to have about 10 pages indexed for us:( all of which are old pages apart from the index page which displays the content of the old site (page titles etc). However when I enter specific content from the new index page it does appear. Or maybe we are being penalised? Is all very confusing to me is there a way of tracking down what could be the cause?

Google seems to be doing a really great job of indexing our site and Im really really (can u feel my uncontrollable moans;) ) to get indexed much better in inkomi.

Whats the best way to move forward on this?

many thanks

Ade

I moved this to from "Submitting to Directories" to "Paid Inclusion/Trusted Feed" as that is more relevant for this topic.

It used to be a couple of months but that could all change now seeing that Yahoo has finally implemented Inktomi results instead of Google.

You may want to keep an eye on this thread. :)
