I'm not sure where you mght have gotten the idea that the domain name or url may have an adverse effect with the search engines, but usually it has no effect. The exceptions being that if the long and ugly url has too many dynamic parameters or if you've got a domain name that's loaded up with hyphens in an effort to squeeze a bunch of keywords into it. One the engines might not be able to spider, the other is just stupid because it attracts greater scrutiny.

Chances are the length of your URL has zero bearing in the lack of success you're seeing. It's much more likely other things entirely.

Read through (and absorb) the information in the Tips for Newbies. Read through and absorb the threads you see pinned at the top of each section of the forums. They're pinned for a reason. You might also want to read through some of the previous site reviews. Though you do not qualify for a site review at this point, you may be able to pick up on tips and suggestions given to other webmasters, or spot something in the advice that you're doing the wrong way that someone else brings up.

If it really is your long and ugly url that's the problem, that's the easiest thing to fix by simply purchasing a new domain name or fixing the limitless parameters. I doubt that's the case though.
