Hi,

I'm looking after a site that has recently rebranded. There is a large amount of traffic coming in from searches of the old brand name even though it doesn not appear on the site anywhere (I assume this is due to backlinks). Currently the site is ranking number one in all the top search engines for the old brand name, but should I advise they mention the old name somewhere on the page to ensure the rankings stay put? E.g. "Blue Widget Limited was previously known as Red Widget Limited" or something? I've not had any experience with a brand name changing like this before.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to say something like "Blank Company -- Formerly OldBlank Company"

That would help avoid any confusion from potential customers.

You might even want to create a page about the name change, e.g. "Our new name reflects our dedication to both customer service and growth, with pride in our company's history combined with a plan for synergistic growth."

Pages like this are pretty much the only place you ever see the word "synergistic" smile.gif

Hi, I have also been part of a company that has changed their brand almost completely. Our site doesn't mention the name change, but I think it wouldn't hurt at all to do so, just in case some old customers come back and think something weird is happening. I like the idea that was mentioned where you could create a page specifically for explaining the reasons why the brand was changed, or you could briefly mention it in an "about us" section of the site.
