One of my sites was gone for a couple of hours today too. That's par for an update. Check back in the morning and then the morning after that. Give it at least a few days before panicking.

One of my sites was gone for a couple of hours today too.

Funny results here, F5 old results, another f5 new results, Certain areas looks better, Grumpus, you remember I sorted out the different SERPs and said couple of different algorithms in the Semantics thread, Now everything seems to be one flat results certain areas, some sites are completely gone some are fairing better than ever,

whether it stays or goes I am not worried, Hey Vickie, what happened to that russian spam site, It is there or not,

what is that phrase it is "pregnancy test comparison" or something else,

Hi Vijay,

Well the massive spamming by the ****.ru webpages disappeared in the SERPS after google did some tweaking after Florida. The results got much more on target for the term you mentioned and all other pregnancy test terms you can find in wordtracker :aloha:

Having said that though, it would appear that the site all those pages were redirecting to are still enjoying the ill gotten gains of top placement for highly searched for terms in my field. The tactic still must be working but the spam pages are just not showing up in the SERPS as I have seen about 4 other websites that I believe to be owned by the same russian company pop up in my field within the last two months or so.

I can't really complain though as the spam sites lack soul and I really believe people visit and go back to the SERP pages. I say this because, despite our drop in ranking for many key search terms after Florida, sales actually increased.

Great, Nice to know, that russian site is gone, That was a disgusting site, on my targeted areas many many spam sites are totally gone from the SERPs, I had to face the same problem you had, One site had some 1000s of sub domains and they were totally dominating the top 100+ results in some areas like "dog food supply" etc, Now they are completely disappeared,

Good move by google, but certain areas they are giving lots of preference to AUTHORITY sites, which is too much partiality IMO, What will happen to lesser sites, then they are loosing an opportunity to do business on the web through search engines which is a bad move,

we should wait and see how it goes,

VIJAY,

One thing that the recent google updates have taught me is that no matter what, my business will survive. May be less profitable at times, but still enough to live on. And ya know, I have Jill to thank for that :bubbly: The common sense SEO that she preaches DOES work and the search engines do like it for the most part.

Thanks, Vickie!

As of this morning I can't find any of my ranked sites, in any search term.
Though my Japaneese sites (targeting japaneese k/ws) we're not harmed, and even went up a little.

If things don't change (back, hopefully) until the end of this day, my call is that this is another update. Just like when "florida" hit, I can see alot of crap in the top results for my k/ws.

My sites are all over the shop at the moment, but to be honest that haven't settled at any particular level since Florida, is it the case that Google will now remain in a constant state of flux? I must admit whilst I don't feel Google owes me a listing, I find the proliferation of other search and directory sites in the top SERPS extremely irritating, especially when trying to find something myself.

Having relied on Google for around two years now I find myself increasingly resorting to other choices. You know it's a problem when your non search-literate friends and relatives start asking you what's wrong with Google.

Some of the SERPs seem to be a lot better, I have noticed that stemming is FAR more obvious now.

I think that THE job to be getting into with regard new Google, has to be SEO copywriting, as Google seems now to be trying , more than ever for natural language results.

Google knows the clock is ticking on relevant SERP's, Yahoo said the switch will occur first quarter, but in my reading that means, 'as soon as we can work it out' so G is in a race against time IMO, and I think we are going to see G chop and change for at least another 2-3 months before the changes become less obvious, and more subtle.

I have been noticing this HUGE update in google as of this morning. It is strange that it seems one of my terms is getting taken over by directories (de ja vou). Others are moving way up.

It isn't across most of the datacenters yet, will be interesting to watch.

I thought it was just my niche because I didn't see any posts in any of the forums, I'm glad you posted Vicki!

Yes... big update going on right now. Great find. :aloha:

Ditto - on directories.

Try to find a listing for a local wedding photographer in Boston - you won't. All directories. You'll see AdWords sponsors and those that "get it" are smart using them, IMO.

This is ugly.

I have my own directory which is benefiting from this. But my client sites are taking a licking... ouch.

Thank you for a warm welcome... from a not so warm Gloucester, MA (7 degrees in the sun).

THINK SPRING (or maybe I should say "Florida" - yuck yuck).

Well my site is in the BLUE YANDER now... Its seems to be all link exchange and directory companies doing well in my area. We do a vacation rental company and we are taking a licking... I can hear the calls tomorrow morning to my office saying that their site is gone... I hope google settles down soon because I don't know if my body can take this anymore... I will die before I am 30 :aloha:

Well I hope everyone else is having better luck then I am... (but thats not saying much with me having dropped off the face of the earth)

Once again Google is dropping sites by the thousands. Although my sites have improved from all of this I do not approve of these kinds of radical changes. It is insane to think that a math Algo based on keyword density, page rank, anchor text, backlinks could ever determine what is valid and genuine content.

even though I benefitted from this update I know that at any day in Googleland you can vanish into oblivion for no valid reason at all
