As of this morning, there seems to have been another major update on google.

I have many of my terms have moved up several pages in the SERPS, thank goodness!

The stemming seems to be even bigger now (but more relevant for my terms).

For example:

Pregnancy tests
home pregnancy tests
early pregnancy tests

I have optimized for the term pregnancy tests but am getting good results, at the moment, for all the terms above, with the biggest jump being in early pregnancy tests which, at the moment, went from a rank of 110 to 9.

I, personally, hope that these changes stick around.

Happy weekend everyone!
Regards,
Vickie

I'm not seeing evidence of an "across the board" update (i.e. in the sense of an update we're used to seeing), but I may be hitting different datacenters than you. It's hard to tell now. I'm also not seeing many changes in the sites I monitor (though again, most of the direct access to various specific datacenters has been cut off over the past weeks - so I can't tell).

It's possible, too, that your site got it's own regular monthly update in the past 24 hours. (I also speculate that various "sectors" tend to be updated at the same time during the rolling update pattern we've been seeing most of the time for the past 6 months or so).

Either way, it's good news that whatever happened treated you well! Love it when that happens, huh?

Actually, now I'm seeing some more evidence. It appears to be that there was a global update that is now appearing on one of the datacenters. So, for the next week or so (while this propogates) folks will probably start noticing that they are "new" one hour, and "old" the next (depending upon which datacenter they get connected to).

Good eye!

I have noticed that google has chopped and changed a bit over the last week, with pages popping in and out. Google is a funny ole thing, and I had one guy mail me 3 times in one day to say he had gone, was back again, had gone again, and was back again.

I told him he would drive himself nuts google watching all the time lol

I have been noticing this HUGE update in google as of this morning. It is strange that it seems one of my terms is getting taken over by directories (de ja vou). Others are moving way up.

It isn't across most of the datacenters yet, will be interesting to watch.

I thought it was just my niche because I didn't see any posts in any of the forums, I'm glad you posted Vicki!

As you can see by my posts, I thought it was a niche update too - until I brought out my google jacknife. Be ready all you high rankings staff members - there's gonna be a lot of "MY SITE IS GONE!" posts this week!

 I almost didn't post this as I wasn't sure why people weren't talking about it - Didn't want to post something and end up looking stupid

One database where the results are consistently changed is http://216.239.37.99

There is something else tweaking this too as one minute I am on the second page and the next, I am on the first page of results.

Actually, the results on the ip address seems to not be as static and I originally thought it was. But to me, the results are much better. It looks like google is making changes that are deseat the #1 positions which achieved that placement by spamming.

The spammers aren't gone but they are moving down in placement. Something I am VERY happy with.

Certain areas spammers are going down, But certain areas results looks worse, got to see what happens, Probably a test run, Florida update there seem to be different algo for different phrases, Now that stemming and phrase breakup semantic algo seems to be applied to all the SERPs,

IMO seems to be a test run ,

I was wondering why nobody had posted a "dance" thread too, because I had many emails the past few days from "regular people" talking about how their positions were changing at any given moment. I figured it was surely a dance, but since I don't watch any sites/results that closely, I didn't bother too check.

Thought for sure I'd hear the rumblings about it here though.

But you know what? I'm really, really proud of everyone here that we didn't get all kinds of google dance threads! That means that people are indeed learning not to watch the results so closely. Those of us who've been doing this for years pretty much know better than to even bother.

Congrats, VickieB! Hope your good fortune holds out for you!

MY SITE IS GONE!

WHAT'S HAPPENING?

IS THIS THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT?

Only joking! But someone has to be the first at getting hysterical about this latest Google dance, and since I am rarely first at anything, I thought I'd take my 15 seconds of fame now.

Actually, I have absolutely no idea how my site or my clients' sites are doing in Google right now, and I won't be checking again until the end of the month. So there!

Seriously though, it's great to hear that Vickie is benefiting from the latest algo tweaks, especially as it's at the expense of the spammers! Bring it on!

Thanks guys  I don't know if it will stick around our not because I was chatting with someone about it and they said for their terms, it was a major disaster (especially travel related terms). He seems to think that they will have to do some major tweaking to make those relevant.

:bubbly: I'm not about to look a gift horse in the mouth though... sales have been up today thanks to google.

One thing that the recent google updates have taught me is that no matter what, my business will survive. May be less profitable at times, but still enough to live on. And ya know, I have Jill to thank for that :parrot: The common sense SEO that she preaches DOES work and the search engines do like it for the most part.

MY SITE IS GONE!!!

(I'll be the second, but the first one who isn't kidding.)

I went from #1 to nowhere in the top 500.
:aloha: :bubbly:  :parrot: :parrot:

There's a whole lotta crap in there now. No idea why my site would just up and disappear. No black hat stuff to penalize. Who knows.
