Hi,

I am having a problem with my Google analytics account as the PPC data is being included within the Organic listings data. I have two questions:

a. Why is it doing this?
b. How do I rectify it?

Many thanks and I apologize in advance if this subject has already been covered (I did do a search).

Andy

Andy, you can use "auto-tagging" for your Adwords if the login is the same as the Analytics. This ties your Adwords account to GA and feeds in all the campaign data.

For other PPC campaigns you can tag the URLs with variables that tell Analytics that they came from paid search - they even have a tool to help you do it:
http://www.google.co...mp;answer=27255

That tool also works to tag email campaigns, etc.

Thanks for the response Dan.

I'm not actually in charge of the PPC or any sponsored links - I only manage the organic search (and I can only view the data - i'm not an admin). Do I have to contact someone who does manage the PPC to set this up (and the admin of the analytics account)?

Cheers.

The Adwords account admin sets up the auto-tagging, yes.

Just as an added note - if you use Google Product Search (froogle) you have to tag those URLs too, unless you want them to show up as Google (organic).

My URLs got truncated, let me try again...

Currently we use this type of keyword tracking in Google AdWords

[codebox]http://xyz.com/ppc/s...hain_management[/codebox]

The URL builder tool would do it this way:

[codebox]http://xyz.com/landi...hain+management[/codebox]

Can't GA use the first method listed above to be able to differentiate between organic and paid visitor traffic?

Thanks.

You could probably write a filter for G Analytics, Barry, but it would be clunky. It's easier to just use the auto-tagging with Adwords.

Thanks Dan. The drawback is that with hundreds of keywords, it's pretty tedious using the auto-tagging feature. There is really very little about it that is "auto"! ;-)

Barry, AUTOtagging is completely automated. You don't need to add all those variables for Google Analytics.

Dan, I'm sorry, I was referring to the tool here:
CODE
http://www.google.com/support/analytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=27255
which seems to not be automated. I will have to look in AdWords fro what you are referring to, I'm not aware of it.

Auto-tagging is enabled in your Adwords account, and it feeds all that data to Analytics for you.

Hi Dan,

Would I need to supply any variables to administrator of the Adsense account? If so what?

Cheers.

You mean Adwords? It should be enabled by default, if not they just need to turn it on.
