I'm thinking of starting od starting a hobby site with quite a few pages.
It would seem that a PFI route may be too expensive as i would have to pay for each individual page to be included.
(Is it true if i submit one page through PFI, the free inclusion spiders will ignore the rest of my site to "force" me to pay for other pages too!)
My thinking is to use a blog instead of a website with multiple pages, and submit the blog as a PFI page...and then put all the different content as blog entries...
Would that work? Can i then just pay for one page(ie the blog) and "sneak" all my content into the SE?

Why don't you just see if the crawlers will pick up your site on their own without paying for inclusion? So long as they are able to find it by a link on another site or a directory, they should have no problem crawling all the pages.
It is true that if you submit a URL through PFI that it will be the only URL that the PFI crawler will index but each crawler based search engine that offers PFI also has a separate crawler that they use to crawl the web for free. That would be the crawler that would find your site and then start crawling all the links it finds on any particular page.

One good way to get spidered is submit to forums etc... places where you can be listed (though link lists are not the best) and thus get crawled... look in the engine you want to get listed on for forums in your industry... post on them with links to your site and they will see you.
Try working in that way...

Be careful posting links in forums to boost rankings. Many moderators won't stand for blatant advertising. Alternatively you might flamed by other forum members

True. It's a definite must to participate in the forum(s) for awhile, read their guidelines, etc before posting a link. However I don't think Aussie was suggesting using forums idea to boost link pop or anything like that.
I think the comment was directed more along the lines of just to get a site noticed by the non-PFI spiders of an engine that also offers PFI. It'll work for that purpose.
Another option would be to look for Directories in your industry that already have a listing in the engine in question. There is a large list of directories over at ISEDB.com you may find useful for such a strategy.
