I was wondering if - when you have a good position in the SERP's and you would for instance make changes to that page, the home page in my situation, and the changes would be to add a handfull of links to other pages within your site if this can have an affect in the SERP's?
In other words if i add additional links, 10 - 15 links on the home page linking to other pages on the same domain can this be a potential cause for a drop in rankings?
Thanks in advance for your replies!

This would only add to the internal links. It does not cause the drop.

If your home page is linking out to 20 pages, it's sending some of its juice to each of them. If you add 10 new links (not to any of the same pages), then the amount of strength the home page is sending to each of those pages (including the original 20) is only a thirtieth rather than a twentieth, at least on average. Depending on the situation, I think that could potentially make a difference to those original 20 pages.

Any change on any page can result in changes to the rankings of that page and the pages it links to.
But then again, doing nothing on any page can also lead to changes in rankings.
So basically, using rankings as a measurement is probably not the smartest metric you should be using to judge if what you're doing is helping or hurting.
