Can Submitting To Too Many Directories Give Negative Result?

i just want to know whether there is thing like "Submitting to Directories too much"? is there any limit to how many directories we can submit? and is getting inbound link from other site better than Submitting to Directories? actually, for me both seems quite same. and when we submit our site to directories for free, they have options of whether or not put their site as a link from our site. so, does choosing this option lead to higher chance of getting approved?

It depends upon the directory. Some will not list your site if you don't link back to them. Which has obvious potential repercussions.
As to your main question, there is no limit to the number of directories to which you can submit your site. However I would caution you not to rely on directories or any other single type of site to help drive traffic or impress the search engines. Single-minded approaches like this usually struggle and fail at some point. So you'll want to make sure you have a diverse set of sites linking to yours.

I think that depends on the Directories. Mostly it doesn't give you negative effect but if you submit to worthless directories ( there are thousands of them) you are just spending your time so, in a way it has negative effects on you.
But I would limit my directories submission up to 1000 max. How about you guys??

1000?
I rarely submit to 10 directories. Much more like 5 or fewer for the vast majority of my sites.

too much is not really possible, but only from directories, well that will lower the value of the links enormous.
so, you need needs from other sources as well, like article submissions, link exchange, forum and blog postings and of course from people who just really like your site !
I would also set a limit on 1.000 links and never pay or reciprocate for any of those links !

Wow that's a lot of work - I submit to around 10 but some of these directories are paid. Personally I don't think it can do much harm unless you link to bad neighbourhoods - say you linked to pron, gambling or spam directories - in which case you'd deserve what you get.
As long as you link to directories that have relevant categories it shouldn't be an issue but as Randy said don't rely on this for traffic - some of these directories are very poor for traffic.

Too many words there IMO
"some of these directories are very poor. " sounds much better

If the directory you're linking back to is nothing but a semi-disguised link farm? Sure it can!
If you only link to sites that you think would be valuable and useful to your real human visitors you can bypass all of those worries. It's the only way to have long term success because eventually every single linking scheme that's ever come along to artificially try to boost rankings via links has bitten the dust. Taking every site that was partipating along with it.

Well, submitting to a lot of directories is not bad. But, you must choose the active directories. If you would submit to directories which aren't working or no active users, then everything's useless. You can submit to directories as many as you want but if it's worthy to be submitted.

1) Check if it has a good PR
2) Check if it regularly indexed by Google
3) Choose the right category
4) Then Choose a regular link option
5) Once you've submitted, check if you are already in the list
