Does anyone here have experience with a solid shopping cart preferably written in PHP. It must be customizable and accept coupons at the checkout.
thanks!
Craig.

Grumpus is working on one Craig. You can trust that it'll be search engine friendly too. He's talking possible beta release sometime in Feb.
I've found plenty of carts that are able to be customized, and a few that accept coupons (something I need too, so I already contacted Grumpus privately and it'll have that). But finding one where the programmer actually understands search engine friendliness is another story. Every cart I've ever used I've had to spend major time decompiling and tweaking to get that element.
If G doesn't find this thread later, you may want to drop him a PM so that you can be notified when Beta testing starts.

Hey Craig,
I personally have been using osCommerce for years and absolutely love it. It not only manages the entire purchasing process, it even can be optimized for search engines with contributions. It is definitely not a one-package cart, but if you have a little time, it is just about the most customizable cart out there.

If you need any pointers don't hesitate to ask.
Definitely good and is FREE
Good Luck

Thanks for the comments.
Actually, I was looking at that OSCommerce (Open Source Commerce) and it seems to have everything that I want including a coupon redemption module at the checkout.

It really is a great shop. I have been involved with it for over 2 years. It has made leaps and bounds giving users just about any feature they could ever need in the contributions section. If you know php well then you are even one step further ahead of the game. It just takes a little learning the file structure.
If you would like to download an oscommerce based shop where people have voluntarily already added contributions saving you HOURS of work definitely check out www.oscdox.com. Designed and developed for a client a few months back and they use this and love it.
As I said I have been around this shop for so long, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks

I've heard only good things about OSCommerce. It's a good recomendation - especially since it's 100% php, so if you know what you're doing, it's easy enough to whip up your own mods for it.
My cart's web side will be XML and PHP based, so hacks and mods on that end will be possible and easy to do, but the admin side is a compiled VB program. It's primarily designed for folks with fairly basic needs (though there are commonly requested things like "coupons" or "gift certificates" that'll be in there that a lot of carts don't offer).
The market for mine is really geared toward the "start-up" or otherwise non-technically oriented crowd who need a versitile solution that meets most every common need/want without having to dink around too much. (And good for web designers who have clients who need a solution on a budget and can't afford to spend a ton of money on a comphrehensive web site - the designer builds a template and the shopping system will spit out a site from the client's inventory).
If you're a programmer type (or can at least read PHP enough to hack it a bit) OSCommerce will serve you well, I think.
