Hello all,

I got a question about link exchange/link purchasing. I was doing some keyword research for one of the products of one of my clients.

Anyways, I did my homework and we come up on the 4th search page for the term the number one search term (not so good) On the very first page, I think it is the second hit, is a wonderful article about this type of product. I instantly thought, "They are not trying to sell anything maybe we could work something out and get a link here to our page?" Then the problem arrised.

This article is found on a .edu site. I figured it would be a bit difficult to get a link here but maybe there are some suggestions and/or "tactic" to getting a link on a .edu site. PLEASE respond and let me know what you think!

Thanks y'all biggrin.gif

The demand for EDU links is very high and continues to increase due to bad SEO advice concerning such links. The educational institutions have in many cases implemented policies forbidding students and staff from selling links. Those link building specialists, whom I know about, who work with the EDU sites all publicly claim to be match useful information (client pages) with good resources (EDU pages).

EGOL posted some advice on how to get EDU links on SEOmoz last year (www.seomoz.org/blog/ten-ways-to-earn-an-edu-link). Jim Boykin also likes EDU links and I think he has shared some ideas on his blog (jimboykin.com).

Don't assume that just because you get a link from an EDU page that it will produce magic results for you. They can help only if the pages are allowed to pass value and value to pass. There are many COM and ORG pages that work just as well or better than the average EDU page.

But I also strongly recommend you not rely on link exchanging strategies. The best links are those links that honestly recommend your site/service/products to other people.

If you play the endless link building game, you'll never be able to quit.

.edu links are no different than any other links in terms of their worth or how to get 'em.

Being a .edu link in itself is probably of no additional worth although (up to now) they have been valuable for the simple reason that they are normally Authoritative and 'Trusted' sites. However if they are going to join the Links for sale trade, then their trusted status will (IMO) become tarnished.
