A couple weeks now i have been trying to get linked from sites that i feel target the same audience as that of my site. However i get little, if any, response and have received virtually no back links. My site is really new and has little traffic to offer in return. i have tried sending sincere and unique requests directly to the webmasters but to no avail. I tried submitting my links to the auto add link trading pages of several of the sites in question, but cannot send enough hits to even show up on their links pages....

so my question is, how do you get to the point of trading links if it is traffic based? when trading links seems like a necessity to get passed a few hundred hits a day?

tips? suggestions? best known methods?

The most important thing is to have a site worth linking to. If others aren't interested in linking to your site, you'll want to double check that yours really is worth linking to because apparently they don't think it is.

in this case the majority of them say PR of 3 or higher....hit count of x or higher....most of the responses we DID get were very positive....im just at a loss as to how to recruit links if the only basis is hits...and much of your hit count increase comes from link swapping...

posting to directories etc is only getting us so far....

nearly all of them yes....this is more a question of tact, motivation for other sites (which understandably appears to be 99% traffic driven).

The problem is i see this as a catch 22...to build traffic you have two choices, content submission or link trading. Content submission is working, but very slow. Link trading relies on traffic already, which is why we are looking to trade in the first place.

damn near every request seems like i am trying to pity play larger sites into giving us a start and allowing us a free piece of their traffic....

Stop requesting links!

Instead, assuming you have something unique and different, simply get the word out. Do something cool and let the world know. Think traditional publicity, not link building.
