Supplemental Blog Results For Seemingly No Reason
Posted 03 June 2007 - 06:55 PM
P.S. These pages may have been placed into supplemental before I set up the custom desc and title tags. If that is the case how long does it usually take for google to recognize the change and take pages out of supplemental hell?

With most blog software the individual post pages are going to be 3, 4 or more clicks from the home page. So unless your home page already has a pretty good bit of link popularity to pass down through that many levels it's not at all unusual for them to end up as supplementals.
If you can use some method to decrease the number of clicks to these deeper pages it usually helps. It also helps if you can get some external sites linking to some of your deeper pages to provide the spiders another route to them.

Getting some external links to your deeper pages tends to work best, but there are times when you can get by with simply providing an easier click path.

Rather, I think what's being discussed and could (possibly, maybe) be needed is an actual honest-to-goodness for-the-user linked-from-the-site-navigation sitemap. One that could (potentially) put all the pages on the site within two clicks or so of each other so as to help spread the home page's "link love" to the individual post pages.
I think getting deep links to individual important post pages might also be helpful, but a sitemap won't hurt. And as Randy says, depending on how close to the tipping point the pages are, the sitemap might potentially do the trick itself (but frankly I wouldn't hold my breath if it were my site).
There is a WordPress plugin that will generate a sitemap for your human visitors. It's definitely not a cure-all, and it does leave a few things to be desired here and there, but if you want a for-the-humans sitemap without a lot of work, it will do the trick.

Exactly. I will check out that plug-in. Thanks.
