My job titles in the last 4 years have been:
Web Marketing Assistant
Marketing Co-ordinator
Internet Marketing Consultant
Online Marketing Consultant
Website Marketing Consultant (that change was to target different keywords ;-) )

All of which involved pretty much the same thing...

If anyone asks what it means I say "I show people how to make money from their websites, often through Google."

For potential clients, I'm an "Internet SEO Marketer". However for the general public, I have to laugh because I say just about the exact same thing as Jill. "I help websites get found on major search engines like Google." That seems to explain it well enough to non-techies.

My new saying has been "Web Design & Online Marketing"

In regards to web design, I say "I create websites for companies"

In regards to online marketing, I agree with Jill, I say "I help market companies on Google & Yahoo"

If I am speaking to someone who knows the business, I then go into details of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) & Search Engine Marketing (SEM).

If it appears I am going way over their head, I basically tell them I am in marketing ... that I am a Web Marketer.

Sometimes I refer to myself as "she-who-must-be-obeyed" or "Marketing Godess."

This is the typical response -> eek.gif

Oh, I KNOW that!! I just say "I only work with macs". You rarely get unlucky.

If they press me, I just add a more detailed descrition of what I do, but I try to sound so bored they don't ask any more questions!

Tip. If on an airline and the guy in the next seat says 'what do you do ?'

Say "I'm in scaffolding". That usually works.

If they press you add "in scaffolding futures".

That always works.

I generally opt for "Supreme Ruler of All She Surveys."

I get pretty much the same reaction that you do, Scottie... giggle.gif

When I'm having a good day I simply call myself Randy. Which tends to get a lot of snickers from UK'ers.

What I call myself on bad days is (thankfully) not suitable for publication. jester.gif

My card says senior search marketing analyst but I'll typically use 'online marketer' or 'search marketer' depending on the audience.

When explaining my job:
I search google and yahoo all day.

"No, seriously shor"

Well, I drive traffic to websites. I increase conversion & revenue of websites.

(Unfortunately, to my family and friends, I'm still known as: tech support)
