I just got back from a big time Internet marketing seminar in Atlanta. One of my wholesale customers invited me to go as his guest. He pays megabucks every month to be a member of this group.
I have to say that it was excellent. While the social bookmarking sites are a pain, several of the lecturers seemed to think that there is a big future there. Let's face it, it would be very difficult to fake it by swapping links or writing articles to get "votes." They had quite a few strategies for getting people to bookmark you.
They also were very hot on article marketing and blogs - especially video blogs. Putting your personality into your site - your picture and your blog posts - was suggested my many.

No, that's not what I said. I said:

It's not as much of you having to create profiles etc on social bookmarking sites allthough that wouldn't hurt from a linkbuilding point of view. Just make it as easy as possible for someone to add your articles to their list of cool articles (Digg/Delicious/MyMSN/MyYahoo/Google etc) and you multiply the effect without having to do submissions. You might have to set up a ping to those sites so that they become available there to be voted on, but it's generally an effective way of marketing, after making sure that your target market actually use these sites.

Have you found any value from those bookmarks?
Nope! At least not that I know of. I only have 1 link on my home page that points to my del.icio.us bookmark page, btw.
