The exercise is not for the bebefit of the page, just a test to establish whether Hx tags are better than using other tags (b i em etc) to indicate headings.I have just set this in motion with 3 data type pages.
<h1>Large sized red widgets with threaded holes Data Sheet</h1>
<p>Large sized red widgets with threaded holes Data Sheet</p>
<b>Large sized red widgets with threaded holes Data Sheet</b>
I shall now check weekly and when/if I see a change, I can then Yo Yo.

I'm just asking because you can't compare pages to other pages. You have to compare one page to itself, if you know what I mean.

I don't think that you're daft

Instead of simplifying the test, you've complicated it.

Do they care about the order in which that content is displayed in the source?

On this forum, some will say NO until their dying day and others will say yes.
I personaly say (a cautious)) yes

I have plenty of reasons why I think it does matter but, I will just mention one...The Google team has admitted that they devalue links located in the footer of websites. It was not just because the links were necessarily off topic, it was because of their position.

I don't still have a test of placement in the code running, but I can tell you that from when I first started testing it way back when CSS-P was just starting to come into vogue (we're talking the late 90's) up until I shut down the test a couple of years ago it made no difference at all.
There were a lot of thoughts running around inside my head saying it should make at least a tiny bit of difference as well back then. However when I actually tested it I found the results to be exactly the opposite of my theories.
Now if someone wants to set up a legitimate test and prove the opposite is true today I'd certainly be willing to listen and start some more testing to confirm their results. But until someone does that I'm simply going to rely on the data I had from several years worth of my own testing.
